FaceFriends

Lately, I have been trying to figure out the definition (or my definition) of a friend.

One would say, friend is someone who’s there when you need him. And I guess, for the friendship to be balanced, you should be there when he needs you. So far, so good.

Some people say, friend is someone who accepts, understands, and tolerates your flaws. You know what I mean, you’ve been there. But how far does the accepting part go? Not an easy question to answer.

An other view is that friend is someone with whom you have shared personal moments. Someone with whom you have grown with. Sharing experiences tends to bond you with people. But then again, so many examples of people we share periods of our lives but then out of the blue, we just lose contact.

I think it’s easier defining who’s not a real friend than the opposite:

Someone who’s not there when he knows you need him.

Someone who keeps contact just for his potential personal interest.

Someone who’s around only when he faces a problem and needs support.

That’s just three classics that first come to mind. Easy and quick to diagnose situations, you hit the delete button with no hesitation on those, especially with repeated incidents of the same nature. (once is a coincidence… )

If I really try to get a conclusion of what the heck is after all a true friend, I’d say it’s the one who sticks through time. Time is the greatest, biggest, hardest and more accurate test for a friend.

And from my short experience, I can guarantee you that today, there is a small number of people surrounding me, that have been around for a very long time.

Good night!

PS: I know some of you want latest news about everything. Please be patient. I have stuff to write, for sure. Surprisingly, this last period at Aix-en-Provence, has been more lively than you can imagine.
