FaceFriends

Lately, I have been trying to figure out the definition (or my definition) of a friend.

One would say, friend is someone who’s there when you need him. And I guess, for the friendship to be balanced, you should be there when he needs you. So far, so good.

Some people say, friend is someone who accepts, understands, and tolerates your flaws. You know what I mean, you’ve been there. But how far does the accepting part go? Not an easy question to answer.

An other view is that friend is someone with whom you have shared personal moments. Someone with whom you have grown with. Sharing experiences tends to bond you with people. But then again, so many examples of people we share periods of our lives but then out of the blue, we just lose contact.

I think it’s easier defining who’s not a real friend than the opposite:

Someone who’s not there when he knows you need him.

Someone who keeps contact just for his potential personal interest.

Someone who’s around only when he faces a problem and needs support.

That’s just three classics that first come to mind. Easy and quick to diagnose situations, you hit the delete button with no hesitation on those, especially with repeated incidents of the same nature. (once is a coincidence… )

If I really try to get a conclusion of what the heck is after all a true friend, I’d say it’s the one who sticks through time. Time is the greatest, biggest, hardest and more accurate test for a friend.

And from my short experience, I can guarantee you that today, there is a small number of people surrounding me, that have been around for a very long time.

Good night!

PS: I know some of you want latest news about everything. Please be patient. I have stuff to write, for sure. Surprisingly, this last period at Aix-en-Provence, has been more lively than you can imagine.

The Review

Nothing more comfortable than train blogging! (although we got no wi-fi here, so I’m posting it later or tomorrow)

Wednesday afternoon got on the train around 14:00, but unfortunately a minor migraine went to become a big one towards the end of the trip, that lasts something like 5 hours. It’s not that long but thinking of the small difference in the price, maybe the airplane would be a better solution.

The trip is sweet, the train goes really fast – something like 300km/h in some parts – and during the 1st part of it (Aix – Lyon) you get to see some small villages and stuff aside. Then it’s mostly fields so nothing interesting.

Arrival at Brussels around 19:30 and quickly by observing people I realize wearing a t-shirt wouldn’t be such a good idea. The moment I step foot on the Gare du Midi (Brussels Central Trains station) I felt the chill and quickly opened suitcases and wore my leather jacket. (remember: I left Aix at around 25C in a summery weather). Later people told me that the previous days it was too hot also in Brussels, so it was just a matter of luck.

A bit shocked from the number of people and trams, buses, metros that surrounded me, Read Full Story » »

While in Brussels

I have some free time until I go out again in order to write a quickie, just to give some first impressions and news for the city and the interview.

The city so far gave me a really good first impression. Big, but not so big. Rich, but not so rich. With a combination of mentalities, cultures, races and lifestyles, seems to be the opposite of boring. I MISSED A BIGGER CITY.

The interview was yesterday morning and it left a good good feeling and much hope. Unfortunately (?) I will have come back here a second time for the second interview (will have to see the boss) so that he selects the final person between 2 or 3 last drafts. (in which I’m probably in with the most chances..) (fingers crossed, I don’t wanna to jinx it). So second trip to Brussels before having the final reply. No matter what, the trip was worth it !!!

So since I didn’t have the time I wanted to see the city and as I met some people that proposed nights out today, I figured I’d change my tickets and finally I’m staying one more day (today). Going back tomorrow afternoon. ( I don’t wanna go baaaaackk :( :( :( )

I don’t have my cable with me so I can’t upload any photos, but I will do as soon as I get back home.

I’ll have to go get ready. We’re going to the restaurant, and then to this outdoor “Apero”, this pretty much means a big thing where people just gather and have an outdoor party – with no entrances and the like – in a park some metro stations away. Then there’s a clubbing thing with the guy from Prodigy – can’t remember his name – on a cool old train station (?) djing , with the amazing price of 10E. (!) gosh.

Looking forward to go back and write you folks in detail.

PEACE OUT OMBRES or like Barney Stinsson would say : WHAT UP BRUSSELS!
